rolling along..and discussions about food

i know that it's been yonks since my last post and wonder if anyone even remembers that this blog exists. anyways an update on my life.

on a 2 month assignment right now, working for a company that runs science camps for primary sch children. job seems fun.. at least in the sense that it's not monotonous. and it helps that it's a small office (only 4 of us) so no clique to break in to and the other temp staff is very nice. work is quiet for now, since registrations for the camps haven't really started. mainly the kids who have attended before who are registering now. so it's a quiet week thus far. the perm staff were telling us temp staff to enjoy the calm whilst we can.

the other temp girl, Y (ok, she isn't actually a girl.. she's in her mid 30s, but she doesn't act it) and i were discussing food. she went to canada after her 'o's and for her uni too over there. and since she works as an artiste manager in the music industry, she travels a fair bit, so we were both enthusiatically discussing how we tend to miss certain foods when we're not in sg and certain foods when we're back here. and there's the search for the holy grail. chicken rice. something that's never the same out of singapore. the taste is never right. either the chicken or the rice or the chilli is different. how we have to learn to cook to satisfy the cravings for local food. we also concluded that in general, pizza and pasta in sg suck. our conclusion was that the cream and cheeses used aren't the same. i used to think that my family was weird for doing grocery shopping all over the world (due to my dad's job) but i realised that we aren't unique. Y was telling about how she buys cereals when she goes to the US and how her dad who has hotels in perth and darwin buys home boxes of vegetables from oz.aaahhh.. finally i don't feel like a food snob anymore.. :)
